The Word "DIET"

If there is one word (I actually have a few words) that drive me nuts... it would be diet.  And when you say the word "diet" the eye-rolls you get or even people turning up their noses.  Well, what is the true definition of the word "diet"?

di·et1
ˈdīət/
noun
  1. 1
the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.
    "a vegetarian diet"

  2. 2
a special course of food to which one restricts oneself, either to lose weight or for medical reasons.
    "I'm going on a diet"

Say what?!?  By definition we are all on a diet!  The kind of food that a person habitually eats?!?  Yes, the second definition is what one is restricting themselves from.  But why is it so bad when you say that you are on a "diet" when in reality you & everyone else around you have always been on a diet?  Why not call it something else?  For example, I just say that I am eating clean.  End of story.  No diet with the negative connotation.  Or one could say "I have a clean eating lifestyle."  Hmm... just some food for thought.

Check out this article for more Information on why we should just forget the word diet:
